An Opponent, Not Just a Board

This is the part that matters. A board on its own needs a second player, and a second player isn't always available. The Nixarcade One plays back — at beginner, intermediate or advanced — so it works at four in the afternoon when everyone else is busy.

It Gets Harder as They Get Better

Toys with one difficulty setting get solved and abandoned. Three opponent levels plus stepped-up memory and reaction rounds mean there's always a next thing to beat — which is the whole reason it survives past the first week.

Four Games, Not One

Solo against the board, two players head to head, a fast reaction game and a memory round that flashes a pattern and asks them to repeat it. Different games for different moods — and the quiet ones are useful when you need quiet.

Made for Floors and Car Seats

A soft bumper frame with rounded corners takes the knocks a children's toy actually gets. There are no loose pieces to lose under a car seat and nothing to set up — so it comes out on journeys instead of staying in the cupboard.

The real reason

The Problem Was Never the Tablet.

Taking the screen away is the easy bit. It's the ten minutes afterwards that are hard — the wandering, the sighing, the asking what there is to do, and the quiet calculation that it would be simpler to just hand it back.

Nixarcade won't change how much your child wants a screen. What the Nixarcade One does is give them something with lights and sound and a game to win, so the moment after the tablet goes down has somewhere to go.

Fits your actual day

The Game Nobody Needs Teaching.

There's no rulebook and no explaining. A six-year-old works it out in about four seconds, and so does a grandparent who hasn't touched a games console in their life. Everyone at the table starts on level ground.

That's why it gets played rather than admired. No setup, no pieces to count out, no waiting for someone to finish reading the instructions — press the button and the first game has already started.

Out of the box

Out of the Box and Straight into a Game.

Charge it, press power, touch the board. Three buttons handle everything else — power and pause, mode, volume — and the volume control is the one you'll be glad of on a long car journey.

Nothing to download, no account to make, no Wi-Fi to join. It's a self-contained object that does one job, and it starts doing it the moment it comes out of the box.

A gift that means it

A Present That Gets Opened Twice.

Most presents for children get a loud thirty seconds and then live under a bed. The ones that last are the ones a parent is quietly glad about too — and a screen-free game that keeps everyone busy on a rainy Sunday is firmly in that category.

It comes out on car journeys, at grandparents' houses and on the kitchen table before dinner. The sort of gift that stops being a gift and just becomes something the family owns.

My children love it. It is incredibly easy to use and a lot of fun. It is easy to use and feels high-quality.

Fun, the game only ends when someone wins, you can play against the machine alone, but it's more enjoyable for two.
